Still a Dumb Name

Yes, I have been pleased with my recent purchase of a ‘Wii’ console gaming system. See how carefully I wrote that sentence to avoid everyone’s inner 12-year-olds? It’s worse than selling a Chevy Nova in Mexico.

Anyhoo. It’s the first non-PC gaming system I’ve owned since my Commodore 64, and I’ve been delighted that it’s broken through my cynical & jaded gamer outlook to provide some moments of pure glee. I’ve been leisurely exploring Super Mario Galaxy, but have gotten still more mileage out of the bundled Wii Sports – Tennis mostly. Did you know that your ratings graph goes up outside of the entire graph pane at about 2020? :-)

Hey you in WA. Why don’t we hang out more? You know, now that we can. I need to be more intentional about getting together with all those friends we were excited to see when we moved back.

  1. Man, I wish we had a wii, but it’s not practical at all to try it here in Scotland. We don’t even have a tv, and I’d want to import an American wii, but then I have no idea if we could even get the American virtual console from over here, plus there’s the whole NTSC/PAL thing…

Too much to deal with. We’ll get one in three years when they’re selling for 99 bucks and the wii 2 (or wii64 or wiicube or whatever) is just around the corner.

  2. Hey Jamie, This probably will sound really dumb, but is this anything that you could bring to our house when you come for Christmas? It sure sounds like it would be fun to play. I could use the exercise after all the Christmas goodies that I have been eating. I know Rob & Jodi would love to play too….

  3. They’re pretty portable, Mom, and that wasn’t a dumb question. :) Yeah, we would enjoy playing. I like to wii bowl. Golf is fun too. Rob is really good at boxing. When Michael lived here and had his Wii here, Rob boxed a lot and got his silver gloves. I think the sports games it comes with seem to be everyone’s favorite Wii games.
