Happy Pi Day!

Posted at 5:59 pm by Becky

Today was the second annual pi day celebration in my classroom. I think the kids enjoy the cookies better than the math, but what can ya do? I also think that very few of them fully realized the genius that is “Oh Number Pi”, our traditional pi day carol.

I told my school that I’m leaving. It was not as fun as telling people who are excited for us. When I told the vice principal that Jamie got his diploma, she did a great “Yaaayynoooo!” reaction. Now I mostly have people coming up to me with sad looks saying “I heard the news.” I think pretty soon my kids are going to think someone in my family died or something.

My kiddos have been taking the big ol’ state tests this week. It’s awesome! I get a quiet classroom for the first hour of the day so I can catch up on grading papers, lesson planning, and all the other non-teaching junk I have to do, and then I have a great excuse to play for the afternoon. So far we’ve done math crossword puzzles, learned to play dominoes, and of course there was the fun and frivolity that is Pi Day. We’ve also been writing poetry–I was really impressed with their “What is a Poet?” poem. Pretty soon we’re going to start reading Love That Dog, which brings me joy!

In other news, the weather has been crazy here. Last week it snowed. Yesterday it was 72 degrees. Weird.

Jamie says hi (actually, he corrects my grammar, but we don’t need to get into that).
