Getting a job is a full time job!

Ug. That is all I have to say about trying to get a job. I really don’t like it. First, I’m not a big fan of shameless self promotion. I’m not that good at it, either, but I don’t want to lose out on a job because of lack of hubris. No good.  Shouldn’t they just look at my ability to use words like “hubris” in casual conversation and say “Hey, she’s both smart and witty. Let’s hire her”? I haven’t found a single application which covers my ability to use big words, however. Don’t get me started on references, since it turns into a full time job for them, too.

On a happier note, the Battle of the Books was on Saturday. I got to be at school at 6:30 am to ride a bus to the Southside for the competition. The kids had a good time, and I relished the nerdiness of getting really in to answering questions about 20 books the kids read. Let’s just say I would have dominated such a competition as much as a scrawny little white girl could.

After the battle, Jamie and I had a great date! The weather was gorgeous, so we went out to dinner and ate Thai food on the roof. Then we went to the bookstore and each bought a book to read. I bought this brain candy. We then returned home to read books and lounge around. So delightful!

And work is work right now. Hopefully it will make it to fun soon.

Back to real life

Posted at 2:00 pm by Becky

…if you count working 2 days a week real life… :)

We had a delightful trip to Washington for Spring Break. Jamie had four interviews, I had one job fair and one interview. We had dinner with our families, and with other people’s families. Both were quite enjoyable, though I discovered that I am rather out of practice with Nertz. I made 2.5 scarves. I cleaned out 1 childhood bedroom. I took 2 giant bags to Goodwill. I drank….5 coffee beverages.

I like numbers. Upon returning to Chicago, I have worked 2 days (and spilled 1 cup of soup on myself during the first jet-lagged, sleep deprived day) and filled out 2 job applications. It snowed for 1.5 days (and stuck!). I have finished 1 scarf and started another. I have made 1 batch of muffins and 2 dinners. I can’t think of any other things to count. Bah.
