Good Day

Posted at 9:31 pm by Becky

You know it’s a good day when you:

  1. are awakened by hubby kisses (I’ll give you a minute to stop gagging. Ready for more?)
  2. spend a good portion of the day on your friend’s couch knitting, watching movies, and talking
  3. enjoy a grilled chicken mango salad for lunch with the aforementioned friend–even though the salad comes in a fried tostada bowl, you can manage to convince yourself it’s good for you because it’s a salad :)
  4. finish a whole hat in one day!
  5. read some of Harry Potter (3 out of 7… I only have 1125 people in line in front of me for Book 7 at Seattle Public Library!)
  6. eat a yummy sandwich for dinner made by your hubby
  7. go on an evening coffee date with said hubby
  8. don’t do any housework at all and don’t care that you have two baskets of laundry to fold and a sinkfull of dishes to take care of tomorrow :)

Yes, it was a good day today.

Get ‘er done!

Posted at 8:49 pm by Becky

Today we finished lots of things!

Becky finished a knitting book (reading, not writing) and is now inspired to start knitting socks. We’ll see how that works out for her. She also finished a knitting project and five pillowcases to match the curtains she hemmed yesterday. She’s feeling very home-ecky.
Jamie finished reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. He also started it today. It is also the only HP book he’s ever read. Odd, no?

Speaking of Harry Potter, for those of you who have NOT read Deathly Hallows, do you think Snape is a friend or foe? :)

We’re moved in!

Posted at 4:21 pm by Becky

Lots of things have been going on lately. Let’s see if I can remember them all!

Movers brought our stuff!

The movers called on the morning of the 5th to tell us that they would bring our stuff that very day! Whee! About three hours (and one very bad rendition of “Hey hey we’re the Monkees” by one mover) later, it was move in time. That’s how I spent the next week. Just about everything is unpacked but the office (still a few more boxes) and pictures on the walls. Come visit!

I have a job!

I accepted the bilingual job. I think I’m going to ask for the third grade opening instead of the fifth grade, since the Spanish would be a touch easier. So, this year I’ll be listening to lots of books on tape, or perhaps “Learn Spanish on your Commute”. I’m a little scared, but really excited!
Jamie likes his job!

He’ll tell you more about that later.

We’ve been married for one year!

To celebrate our anniversary, we took a trip to Orcas Island. We stayed at a cute little Bed and Breakfast, run by a fun French man. He was very welcoming, and had a cool accent. I bet I could con Jamie into posting pictures so you can enjoy the cuteness too. We spent Friday traveling (and utilizing our private hot tub), then spent Saturday exploring the town, kayaking, eating gelato, and having our dinner served to us on our porch. How delightful (and yummy! I had salmon in puff pastry… yum)! On Sunday we got up early and went whale watching. We saw a family of orcas playing and jumping. I highly recommend it! The trip was a really good time, and a really good way to relax and refocus on this marriage thing. :)

Our cake wasn’t freezer burned!

Here is how to freeze the top of your cake so it is edible one year later (Thanks to whomever is responsible for wrapping our cake in this method)(Individual results may vary):

  1. Place cake in an aluminum pie pan. Poke skewers into the top to keep it from getting smushed, then place another pie pan on top (upside down).
  2. Place the pie-pan/cake sandwich in a large plastic bag (like a grocery or clean garbage bag). Tie the top closed.
  3. Place the whole shebang in another bag.
  4. Place in freezer.
  5. Take out one year later, but more than an hour before you’d like to eat it. :)

Weird stuff happens to Becky at the grocery store!

Today I was doing the grocery shopping when a nice lady came up to me in the baked goods aisle (I was getting cornmeal for the bottom of our pizza for Saturday night. Seriously, come visit!) and asked if I’d like an iced caramel macchiato. She was holding said beverage in her hand. I looked at her, verified that she was indeed a Starbucks employee, and said “Um, sure! Did I do something special?” She said that she was bored and wanted to make something, and I thanked her. Anyone who’s met me knows how this made my day!

I think that’s all the news from Fre-llard (apparently we live on the border of Fremont and Ballard. As a side note, there is a sign on the way into Fremont that says “Center of the Universe. Please turn your watches back 5 minutes.”). I’ll let Jamie fill you in on anything I’ve forgotten.
