Perhaps the term you’re looking for

Posted at 10:32 pm by James

…is stub, Becky. However, that term means something you’re going to fill in later, at least in Computer Science parlance, so perhaps you’re just writing blurbs.

Oh, hi there. What, quiet, me? Well, time flies when you’re having fun. And I am having a lot of fun at work, as my coding powers quickly increase… soon I will be invincible! Muahaherrr. Anyway, I am sure that the pies are wonderful and will be well regarded at the company barn party tomorrow. No idea how much competition they’ll have, but I guess a hunderd (hundred) people are supposed to show up. The party will involve pie eating, a bounce house, miniature horses and goats, and golf clubs. Not together.

Several small posts in one!

Does that mean they’re stumps? Maybe…

Stump #1: Why I heart Seattle

I heart Seattle for lots of reasons. First, there’s the weather. It was cool and gray this morning, so I spent some time in a coffee shop (where my favorite radio station had a promotion that meant a $1.03 latte for me! Yay!) then came home and baked pies! Now it’s warmer, but nowhere near Chicago smack-you-in-the-face hot. Second, there’s the fact that there are so many bicyclists. I really like that people ride their bikes everywhere. Must put air in bike tires so I can do the same. Third, there’s the fact that I can recycle almost anything, including apple cores and pizza boxes. Seriously! There’s also the serendipitous placement of a superb yarn store right next to the public library (which I also love!), but we won’t get into that right now.

Stump #2

I made two pies today, apple and raspberry-rhubarb. They’re for Jamie’s company picnic/barn party this weekend. There’s a pie baking contest, which I was pretty sure I was going to dominate. However, I was a bit off my game, so we’ll see.

Stump #3

Could someone please tell me what a very small post is actually called? I don’t think it’s really called a stump.

Stump (for lack of a better term) #4

Turns out I’ll be teaching 5th grade dual language instead of 3rd. The Spanish will be harder, but I’ve got the management (keeping the little twerps in their seats and working, for the non-educator types) figured out for the most part. It looks like I’ll be in the newest portable. Whee! I went to my district orientation and discovered that on top of regular pay, I get “responsibility pay”. Now, I saw the salary schedule that had “responsibility pay” on it, and thought it was for teaching extra classes or something, and bemoaned the pay cut I suffered for leaving Chicago. NOT SO! Turns out “responsibility pay” means “we know you work way more than the 7.5 hours we pay you, so here’s more money. Cheers!” (Unfortunately it also means I can get roped in to extra meetings because it’s technically covered by this pay. I choose to ignore that right now.) I also discovered that we have a midwinter break! Woo hoo! A week off in February just because I’m so nice. Well, maybe not, but I choose to see that as the reason. Furthering my loving-the-being-a-teacher-right-now-ness was a DVD I watched on setting up your classroom. Yes, they make such things. Yes, I watched it and enjoyed it and am eager to set up my room! It’s going to be the coolest! (Well, maybe not as cool as the teachers who have jungle themed rooms complete with vines, monkeys, and a giraffe, or the teacher who has a camp theme complete with fake wooden posts and bugs, but it will be close!)

Stump #5

I’m really just writing to put off making new kitchen curtains. Starting feels a bit daunting, and since I only barely have enough fabric, I’m a bit scared to start cutting. However, to quote a former colleague, “God hates a coward!”, so buck up and get to it! Maybe after I clean the whole house. And knit a few rows. And figure out the reading level of all of my classroom books. Yeah, then it will be time to start… :)
